Caroline Rennie

Caroline Rennie currently serves as the Associate Superintendent at the American International School Riyadh.

As the former Head of Green School New Zealand, she is known for designing and weaving innovative, sustainable learning communities across the Middle East and Asia-Pacific.

Caroline combines expertise in curriculum development and strategic planning with a systems-thinking, financially viable approach to drive innovation and encourage entrepreneurial creativity. She finds passion and joy in learning that honours nature.

David May

David is a Senior Instructor at Zayed University, where he teaches General Education courses in the College of Interdisciplinary Studies. His work focuses on helping students and professionals develop sustainability literacy and a practical understanding of ESG issues.

He holds an MSc in Sustainable Development, Management and Policy, and has been a researcher at the Centre for Sustainability through Research and Education (CSRE) for the past seven years.

Lakmee Senadheera

Lakmee is an experienced educator and the sustainability lead at Al Ain British Academy, one of the first Aldar schools to become a TASS member.

Passionate about creating meaningful learning experiences that foster global citizenship, Lakmee integrates environmental awareness and sustainable practices into all aspects of school life.

With a strong commitment to collaboration and community engagement, she has been instrumental in driving student-led advocacy efforts and empowering the TASS Ambassadors to take action toward a more sustainable future.

Lavi Chandra

Lavi is the Co-Founder of Leela’s Lunches, a leading school food caterer in the UAE.

Following a career in investment banking in New York, London and Mumbai, she founded Leela’s Lunches in Dubai in 2015. Under her leadership, the company has grown to serving 15,000 high quality meals a day for over 40 nurseries and 10 international schools.

She is passionate about children’s education and the impact that sustainable, nutritious food can have on their development. Lavi has led several sustainability initiatives across the business – including measuring and reporting the carbon footprint of their lunches and electrifying their delivery fleet.

Shaheen Sheikh

Shaheen is an Activation Manager at AZRAQ, a UAE-based non-profit marine conservation organisation, where she leads corporate and community engagement initiatives such as environmental activations and beach clean-ups.

Following school and university in Dubai, she has pursued a career in sustainability reporting, stakeholder engagement, and strategic content development, enabling organisations to communicate their environmental and social impact with authenticity and purpose.

Shaheen is passionate about shaping meaningful sustainability narratives and campaigns that inspire lasting environmental action.

Brett Girven

Brett is the Principal of Dubai British School – Emirates Hills and Convenor of the TASS-Middle East regional hub.

He was previously the Principal of The Arbor School, Dubai, a Founding Member of TASS in the UAE, where he led several environmental initiatives including the development of an eco-literacy curriculum, overseeing a whole-school sustainability audit, and pioneering the use of low-carbon biodiesel in the school’s buses. Recently, he has led TASS workshops on Connectedness to Nature for educators in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Bahrain.

A zoologist by training and a father of three, Brett holds a Post-Graduate Diplomas in Environmental Science and Secondary Teaching, and has spent over 20 years in education, the last 10 of which have been in the Middle East.

She is proud to serve as an ambassador for TASS, an organization aligned with her values and dedication to creating a more environmentally conscious world.

Sustainability in education affects not only how we learn, but also how we live and make choices every day. Our generation will be the one to make lasting changes to the environment, and schools are an important starting point. At BSAK, I have seen how small but important actions, like cutting down on waste or raising awareness, can make a difference. When I was in primary school, my teacher showed our class a video of one of Greta Thunberg’s speeches, in which she was criticising world leaders for not taking immediate action to mitigate the effects of human-caused climate change. That was one of my first exposures towards grasping the idea of the state of our environment.

Since then, I’ve learnt more about our environment and understood how humans have affected it, which drove me to want to try my best to help protect our planet for the future generations. Sustainability might just be the biggest talk of the 21st century. People have been advocating for this issue for years, but not much has been done, and the situation is becoming alarming. I feel that we need to develop empathy towards the environment, and only then can we really do something for it. The place where children single-handedly spend most of their time is school. For me, the single greatest factor that shaped my interests in environmental protection was to be a part of a sustainable school. He has previously been involved in efforts to increase sustainability at his school through participating in the international Global Entrepreneurship Conference, conducting extensive research on water consumption and sustainability at his school, and more.

When I was 7 years old, I watched David Attenborough’s ‘Planet Earth’ and I was astounded. I remember, one documentary showing monkeys stranded in a dry desert because their homes in the Amazon forests were cut down to make paper for us. That truly made me reconsider the state of our environment.

I then decided that I would try my at-most best to help protect our environment for future generations. This starts from my home and my school. I am eager to implement these values at GFS and work towards making our school greener. As a TASS ambassador, I am determined to promote sustainability within our classrooms and communities, raising awareness on eco-friendly practices and encouraging others to join in our efforts to create a more sustainable future.

Sustainability in schools provides a community where people can work to achieve smaller goals within the school, and see improvements. Additionally, in-school sustainability is an accessible way for young people to take action in the field.

What excites me the most about TASS, is that it will give me the opportunity to hear from student leaders in sustainability globally, which is incredible for sustainability being a collective goal. Being able to communicate new ideas and implement them at my own school would be ideal.

As a student who envisions change and prosperity, I have participated in many initiatives led by our school to take part in sustainability. I’m part of the Hydroponics and Growth team and help monitor the school’s goal of achieving sustainability in environmental related matters, and I have been a part of many competitions centered around sustainability in and out of school.
