At Wesley College, we are committed to embedding sustainability and respect for the natural world into our teaching, learning, and wellbeing practices. This begins with integrating sustainability topics across the curriculum and fostering service-learning opportunities that allow students to make meaningful contributions to their communities. We aim to cultivate a culture where students and staff collaborate on initiatives addressing ecological and environmental issues, supported by appropriate resources and guided by a long-term vision.
In 2024, we have taken our first step by joining The Alliance for Sustainable Schools (TASS) to solidify our commitment to sustainable practices. By 2025, we will establish a Sustainability Lead position at each campus to champion these initiatives and coordinate efforts across the College. Student involvement is essential, so we will work closely with the Student Learning Council to engage students in decision-making, empowering them to lead and drive change within the school community.
Further initiatives include developing a college-wide sustainability statement, enhancing sustainability units in the primary years, and implementing practical, eco-friendly practices. We will also strengthen our Service-Learning framework to ensure all levels have clear, impactful engagement with sustainability and service.
In future years, Wesley College aims to create lasting partnerships that support sustainable development goals (SDGs) within and beyond the school community, setting a strong foundation for environmental stewardship.
