Sustainable Schools in Dubai: SISD

At Swiss International Scientific School (SISD), we are committed to providing an education that fosters social, cultural, economic, and environmental awareness. We firmly believe that such an education equips students with the necessary tools to shape a better future for themselves and for society as a whole. Our school campus is thoughtfully designed to minimize energy consumption, while our learning spaces are designed to provide comfort and promote a healthy environment. Our curriculum revolves around transdisciplinary themes, empowering students to become change-makers and impactful leaders.

We recognize that Educating for Sustainability (EfS) requires a deep understanding and awareness of the interconnectedness and interdependence of social, economic, and environmental systems. To this end, we have implemented a comprehensive whole-school approach to Educating for Sustainability. Sustainability concepts and key understandings are seamlessly integrated into our curriculum, as well as reflected in our day-to-day practices throughout the school.

On Friday, February 24th 2023, SISD joined The Alliance for Sustainable Schools. The membership was confirmed by the signing of the Sustainable Schools Charter. Watch the full video featuring SISD’s senior leadership team, sustainability leads and TASS Student Ambassadors below:

As proud members of the Eco-Schools Programme, we are dedicated to instilling the knowledge, skills, attitudes, attributes, actions, and enduring understandings of sustainability practices within the entire school community. We understand that true sustainability education extends beyond the classroom. Therefore, we fully integrate our campus design, daily operations, and local community into our curriculum and teaching and learning processes.

One of our primary objectives is to move SISD towards a Circular Economy model. We draw inspiration from the Ellen McArthur Foundation Circular Economy, which is incorporated into the International Baccalaureate (IB) Curriculum we follow. By embracing a Circular Economy, we aim to create a sustainable and regenerative system that minimizes waste and maximizes resource efficiency.

Our commitment to sustainability can be observed in every aspect of school life. From our curriculum to our campus design, and from our daily operations to our active engagement with the local community, we strive to create a nurturing and inspiring environment that prepares our students to be responsible global citizens. We firmly believe that by fostering social, cultural, economic, and environmental awareness, we are empowering our students to play an active role in shaping a better future for themselves and for those around them.
