Sustainability at
Jumeira Baccalaureate School

At Jumeira Baccalaureate School, we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint by launching initiatives that guide us towards becoming a more sustainable school. This year, we are dedicated to raising awareness of global challenges and empowering our students to take meaningful action through our Service as Action programme. As part of this effort, we will be working together as a school community to drive sustainable projects that will positively impact both our environment and the world at large.

Our student ambassadors and Sustainability Council have taken a leading role in launching various initiatives, including reducing school waste by banning single-use plastics, optimizing the use of recycling bins, and promoting eco-friendly practices both within the school and at home. Students are encouraged to walk to school where possible, and our bus provider, Arab Falcon, has already transitioned to biofuel in an effort to reduce carbon emissions. We believe these projects will foster a sense of responsibility and inspire lasting change in our community.

One of our key focuses this year is raising awareness about the importance of recycling and conserving resources. Recycling bins have been placed throughout the campus, and initiatives to encourage the use of refillable water bottles are now in place. Our senior students and parent governing body have also been engaged in climate education through the Climate Fresk programme, where they were trained as ‘freskers’ to run sustainability workshops for our school community.

We are also working to improve energy conservation. Over the summer, solar panels were installed on the roof of our primary school gym to harness renewable energy. In addition, we have introduced a centrally controlled AC system managed by our facilities team to ensure more efficient energy use.

Integrating sustainability into our curriculum is essential to nurturing environmentally conscious individuals. Sustainability topics are now embedded across various subjects, empowering our students with the knowledge and understanding of pressing environmental issues. By doing so, we aim to equip them with the skills and mindset necessary to become responsible stewards of our planet.

We are excited for this journey as we work together to create a sustainable future for our students and our community.
