Sustainability at
GEMS Metropole School Motor City

At MTS, environmental sustainability is not an initiative but a way of life woven into our teaching, learning, and community values. Our outdoor learning pedagogy is guided by our 6 Principles: curiosity, creativity, resilience, responsibility, sustainability, and collaboration. We nurture a generation of learners who care deeply for the planet and act to protect it.

Outdoor learning lies at the heart of our sustainability journey. Through our Forest School, students learn to appreciate nature, explore biodiversity, and understand how their actions impact the environment. Our school farm brings these lessons to life, where children plant, harvest, and take part in farm-to-table experiences that connect them to food systems and sustainable living. Market Days celebrate this cycle, as students sell produce they’ve grown, developing enterprise skills while promoting local, eco-friendly choices.

Our Curiosity Approach to teaching and learning and Curious Creators specialised art and design lessons empower children to question, investigate, and find creative solutions to environmental challenges. Through enquiry-based learning, students lead projects on recycling, energy conservation, and reducing waste transforming curiosity into meaningful action. The results speak for themselves. We have reduced single-use plastics by over 70%, planted more than 200 trees. Families have adopted sustainable habits at home, creating a ripple effect across the community.

Our goal to achieve zero waste by 2026 keeps us focused and accountable. What truly sets MTS apart is our holistic, hands-on approach where learning happens outdoors, in the community, and through lived experience. By empowering every child to be a curious, confident, and compassionate steward of the Earth, we are shaping a future where sustainability thrives beyond the classroom.
