As a school, we recognize the importance of sustainability and our responsibility to take action to protect our planet. At ELPS, we understand that sustainability involves meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Therefore, we are committed to promoting sustainability throughout our school community.
One way in which we are promoting sustainability is by incorporating environmental education into our curriculum. We believe that by educating our students on the importance of sustainability, we can inspire them to take action and make a positive impact on the environment. We also encourage our students to take part in sustainability-related projects and initiatives, such as community clean-up events, beach clean drives, and planting campaigns.
The launch of the Coastal Leadership Program (CLP) at ELPS will aim to inspire students to become leaders in their communities and to make a positive difference in the world. By providing students with opportunities to develop their leadership skills while learning about marine conservation and coastal environments, it will foster a sense of responsibility and a desire to protect our planet’s natural resources.
Recently, a group of high school students at ELPS were involved in creating a Terra Sustainable garden (Terra was named after the Terra Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, a Sustainability Pavilion which focused on the societal goal that every small act can contribute to a larger positive impact). The garden is a one of its kind student-led project which works as a device charging station solely depending on generating energy through solar panels. Another highlight to mention here, is our secondary students placing Terrariums across the school campus, to highlight sustainability concepts such as the water cycle, photosynthesis and carbon cycle.
In addition to integrating sustainability in education, we are taking steps to make our school building more sustainable. Recycling programs, such as placing E-waste bins have helped us dispose electronic waste in a responsible manner and have greatly reduced our carbon footprint. Various sustainability programs at school, encourage our students and staff to reduce their energy consumption. They practice switching off lights and all technological devices at the time of school dispersal as part of effective class management.
We believe that sustainability is not just an individual effort but a collective one. Therefore, we regularly engage with our students, staff, and parents to gather feedback and ideas on how we can improve our sustainability efforts by offering various surveys throughout the school terms.
At English Language Private School, we understand that sustainability is an ongoing process, and we are committed to continuously improving our sustainability practices. We will continue to evaluate our efforts and explore new ways in which we can reduce our impact on the environment.
As active community members, we also believe that sustainability is a crucial issue that requires action from everyone. As a school, promoting sustainability through education, action, and community engagement is one of our many goals. We hope to inspire our students to become responsible global citizens who are committed to creating a sustainable future for all.
