Sustainability at
Deira International School (DIS Dubai)

Deira International School (DIS) is a leading British curriculum school in Dubai that places sustainability, innovation, and community responsibility at the heart of its learning culture.

Guided by the Al-Futtaim Education Foundation’s mission to inspire excellence, DIS is committed to preparing students to become globally minded citizens who contribute to a sustainable future with abundance for all. Our approach to sustainability is holistic and embedded across the curriculum with the Good Life Goals used as an anchor in Primary before transitioning to the UN Sustainable Development Goals in Secondary. Through initiatives such as Forest School and Eco-Warriors, students engage in authentic learning experiences that nurture environmental literacy, social responsibility and leadership.

In our Secondary School students are empowered to lead on sustainable initiatives. We are actively working towards our Green Flag award and students continue to make great progress moving towards a single-use plastic free school. Our school grounds reflect our growing commitment to sustainability in practice. These grounds have evolved over their twenty-year history and our 20-hectare site encompasses a forest school, hydroponic gardens and a tolerance garden rich in biodiversity.

New partnerships with both The Alliance for Sustainable Schools and Terra reflect our ongoing efforts to become a force for good in the world of sustainable education.
