Dubai English Speaking School (DESS College) is committed to fostering a sustainable environment that benefits both our students and the wider community. We believe that it is our responsibility to protect the planet for future generations, and we are taking proactive steps to reduce our environmental impact. We are guided by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which we use as a comprehensive framework to guide our sustainability initiatives.
One of our key initiatives has been to significantly reduce our plastic consumption. We have implemented measures such as eliminating single-use plastic items, encouraging reusable water bottles and promoting recycling programs. By minimising our reliance on plastic within our canteen, we have introduced recyclable and compostable packaging, contributing to a cleaner and healthier planet.
We are also dedicated to raising awareness about sustainability among our students and staff. Through educational trips, assemblies, and theme days, we are empowering individuals to make informed choices and adopt environmentally friendly practices. We believe that by fostering a culture of sustainability, we can inspire positive change both within and beyond our school community. Furthermore, we have recently established an Eco-Garden on our campus. This initiative not only provides a beautiful and nurturing space for our students but also serves as a valuable educational resource. The garden produces fresh herbs and vegetables, which are used by all and contribute to a healthier and more sustainable diet. By growing our own food, we are reducing our carbon footprint and promoting a greater appreciation for the natural world.
DESS College is proud of the progress we have made in our sustainability journey. However, we recognise that there is always more to be done. We are committed to continuously exploring new opportunities to reduce our environmental impact and create a more sustainable future for generations to come.
