A sustainable future is a whole school focus at British International School Riyadh. We have been a member of Eco-Schools since 2018 and will be renewing our Green Flag Award for the 3rd time in 2023 focusing on waste minimization, litter, energy, global citizenship and climate change.
We are extremely proud to have developed the BISR Recycling Centre & Precious Plastic workshop on the school grounds. A real emphasis has been put on trying to manage and recycle our own trash. We have minimised the problem by looking to prevent single use plastics in lunch boxes and promote a healthier lunch. With that we have also recently changed our supplier of sports clothing to Tsunami who are at the forefront of eco-driven apparel repurposing PET water bottles into sportswear.
Our Primary School has developed and delivered a number of units which have a strong reference to sustainability. We are in the process of redeveloping all of our units from a conceptual framework and ensuring that the UN Sustainable Development Goals underpin significant sections of the units and all learning. This is a three-year project and aligns well with the Saudi Arabia Vision 2030 with its strong emphasis on sustainability and green technology.
Our primary & senior eco-committee meet regularly to share ideas and push for a more sustainable school. The committee undertakes a number of different tasks throughout the year greening classrooms, composting, monitoring our hydroponics and auditing energy consumption. We are honoured to be a founding member of TASS and will continue to push for a greener future.
