The Waste Lab and Sustainable School Food

The Waste Lab and Sustainable School Food

The Waste Lab are a women-owned, Dubai-based, impact-driven start-up that aims to create an opportunity for every food scrap to become a solution for, rather than a burden on, our society and environment.

We understand that while reducing food waste is a priority, schools will always find themselves with some food scraps and leftovers, so we turn to natural composting as a solution. By supporting schools with onsite or offsite composting, along with education around the topic, we’re able to capture the value in this waste to enrich local soils, enhance our local environment, and inspire healthy habits in pupils and staff alike.

Why compost?

  • Reduces landfill waste
  • Creates local resources
  • Builds communities
  • Reduces or eliminates the need for chemical applications
  • Stores atmospheric carbon dioxide in the soil
  • Stores and supplies plant nutrients
  • Builds healthy soil
  • Improves water holding capacity in soil
  • Helps grow your own food

TASS has partnered with The Waste Lab to help demonstrate the feasibility of this sustainable food waste management solution to its network of schools.
