Schools today are at the forefront of nurturing a new generation that cares about the planet. Actively involving students in sustainability efforts not only reduces your campus’s carbon footprint but also empowers young minds to drive lasting, positive change.
The Sustainable Behaviour Change Hackathon invites students and staff to actively participate in their school’s sustainability journey. Through collaborative problem-solving and the application of cutting-edge behavioural science, participants create actionable, rewarding solutions that foster sustainable practices across your campus. This hands-on experience goes beyond theory, transforming ideas into tangible actions and measurable outcomes.
Why participate?
Achieving sustainability isn’t just about innovation — it’s also about driving behaviour change. According to the UK Climate Change Committee, 62% of the required emissions reductions depend on people adopting new habits, like reducing meat consumption or choosing public transport. The hackathon equips you to identify the specific barriers to change within your own school and design tailored and actionable solutions that encourage sustainable choices.
How does it work?
Students work in guided teams to identify on-campus challenges in the areas of Food, Waste, Energy, Travel. Together, they co-create practical interventions that drive meaningful, lasting change. Using science-based techniques, they develop solutions that can be seamlessly integrated into your school’s infrastructure, services, and communications, delivering tangible benefits such as lower utility costs and reduced waste.
The participation fee for TASS members is AED 200 per student and AED 250 for non-TASS members. Each school must send a minimum of 3 students and no more than 10 students.
